The Mermaid and her Prince

Well, I painted this one for a couple reasons. First one, I just freaking love the original Little Mermaid. It's just so sad, and for some reason I'm drawn to tragic stories.

The second reason is because I think that we all are a little like the mermaid of this story: we think we're madly in love with someone, when in reality we're in love with the idea of some perfected, idealized version of that person. And we change ourselves, and think we can change them, and end up breaking our hearts when it doesn't work out.

At least...that's happened to me before. And I guess that's why I'm drawn to this story.
