Empty MansionsI used to think it would be wonderful if I could live in a mansion: a really old one with hundreds of secrets and doors and locks and keys to keep me busy. It would have passages hidden behind aging, dusty tapestries and I would be ruler of my own little world. I imagined up people who would also inhabit the mansion: friends as well as enemies. I dreamed of having a garden. Not a practical vegetable garden, but a beautiful garden, with pathways and fountains and hundreds of flowers. This was terribly impractical, because, as you see, I lived in one of the northernmost states in the U.S.A.
